Protecting Metalwork in Coastal Greece

Salt air is tough on steel and aluminium. We share the finishes and alloys we recommend for Corfu’s climate.

Corfu’s sea air carries chloride that attacks unprotected steel quickly, especially on exposed railings, gates and pergolas within sight of the water.

For outdoor structural work we recommend hot-dip galvanizing, followed by a polyester powder coat where colour matters. The duplex system lasts far longer than either finish alone.

Where weight and appearance matter more than strength, marine-grade aluminium or 316 stainless steel is the better investment — both hold up well with only routine rinsing.
